Mantra lyrics:
”Om Narayanaye Vidmahe
Vasudevaya Dhimahi
Tanno Vishnu Prachodayat.”
Narayana (Vishnu) Gayatri mantra translation:
”Om, Let me meditate on Lord Narayana,
Oh, Lord Vasudeva, give me higher intellect,
And let Lord Vishnu illuminate My Mind.”
Description:
Lord Narayana is the Supreme Reality, the Supreme Brahman. He is the Vedic Supreme God according to Bhagavata Purana and other Puranas and is venerated as the Supreme Being in Vaishnavism.
He is also known as Lord Vishnu and is considered the Supreme Purusha in Hindu ancient texts, such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Vedas.
Lord Vishnu is the all-pervasive Lord who expands into everything. Lord Vishnu is the maintainer of the creation and the complete cosmic creation.
His role is to return to Earth in troubled times and restore the balance between evil and good. So far, Lord Vishnu has been incarnated nine times, but Hindus consider that He will be reincarnated one last time close to the end of this world.
He is also venerated as Mukunda, which translates as ”God”, who is the giver of Moksha or liberation from Samsara – the cycle of births and deaths in the material world.
In Sanskrit, another name for water is Nara. “Nara” also translates as ”the living entities,” hence, another meaning of the Sanskrit word ”Narayana” is ”resting place for all living entities.” The close connection of Narayana with water explains the frequent illustration of Narayana in Hindu art as sitting or standing on an ocean.
Narayana’s good traits are like an ocean; they are beyond measure. Additionally, He is especially linked with light and particularly with the Sun. In some ancient texts, He is not included as one of the original 7 solar gods, but in later Hindu texts, He is mentioned as their leader.
Vishnu is usually depicted with a human body, commonly with colored skin and with 4 arms. His four hands always carry four objects, which represent the things He is responsible for.
