More information:

Lord Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu in Hinduism, and is considered to be a warrior, hero, philosopher and teacher by Hindus. The name Krishna appears as the 57th and 550th name of Lord Vishnu in Vishnu Sahasranama of the Mahabharata, and is also listed in the 24 Keshava Namas of Lord Vishnu which are recited and praised at the beginning of all Vedic pujas. A puja is a prayer ritual offered in Hinduism, to honor and worship one or more deities

Krishna’s birthday is celebrated 8 days after Raksha Bandhan in the month of Sravana and celebrations are spread over 2 days.

According to the Bhagavata Purana, which is a sattvic purana, Lord Krishna is termed as Svayam Bhagavan since he was the full incarnation of the supreme god Vishnu. Lord Krishna is commonly portrayed and described as an infant or young boy playing a flute as in the Bhagavata Purana, or as a youthful prince giving guidance and direction as in the Bhagavad Gita. The stories of Lord Krishna appear across a large spectrum of Hindu philosophical and theological traditions. They portray him in many perspectives: a model lover, a God-child, a divine hero, a prankster and the supreme being. The main sacred scriptures discussing Krishna’s story are the Harivamsa, the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana, and the Vishnu Purana.

Krishna never appears to grow old or age at all in the historical illustrations of the Puranas despite passing of a few decades, but there are grounds for a debate whether this reveals that he has no material body, since battles and other descriptions of the Mahabharata epic show precise indications that He seems to be subject to the limitations of nature.

Worship of the Lord Krishna, either in the form of Vasudeva, Gopala or Bala Krishna, can be traced to as early as fourth century BC. Worship of Lord Krishna as the supreme being, or svayam bhagavan, known as Krishnaism, arose in the Middle Ages in the context of the bhakti movement.

From the tenth century AD, He became a favorite subject in performing arts and regional traditions of devotion developed aspects of Krishna such as Jagannatha in Odisha, Vithoba in Maharashtra and Shrinathji in Rajasthan. Since the 1960s the adoration of Lord Krishna has also spread in the West, largely due to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

Sabse unchi prem sagai lyrics and translation:

Sabse Oonchi Prem Sagai
Duryodhana Ko Meva Tyago
Saga Vidura Ghara Pai
Sabse Oonchi Prem Sagai
Lord Krishna renounced the delicacies that Duryodhana offered, and ate vegetables at Vidura’s house.

Juthe Phala Sabari Ke Khaye
Bahu Vidhi Prema Lagai
Sabse Oonchi Prem Sagai
As Lord Ramacandra, He ate fruits which were already filled with love from Sabari.

Prema Ke Bas Nripa Sevaa Kinhi
Aap Bane Hari Nai
Sabse Oonchi Prem Sagai
Love is indeed the best way to serve and please the Lord.

Rajasuya Yajna Yudhisthira Chino
Tamai Jutha Uthai
Sabse Oonchi Prem Sagai
In Maharaja Yuddhistira’s Rajasuya Yajna sacrifice, Lord Krishna served the Brahmans and picked up their eating utensils.

Prema Ke Basa Arjuna Ratha Hankhyo
Bhula Gaye Thakurai
Sabse Oonchi Prem Sagai
Out of pure love for Arjuna, He took the position of being his charioteer, and He forgot that He was the Lord.

Aisi Preet Baḍhi Vrrindavan
Gopina Naach Nachai
Sabse Oonchi Prem Sagai
Such love did Lord Krishna portray in Vrndavana when He danced with the gopis in the rasa lila.

Sura Krura Is Layaka Nahi
Kehe Lek Kare Baḍai
Sabse Oonchi Prem Saga
Sura Dasa asks, „In what way could I worship the merciful and magnanimous Lord?”

More information:

This is a bhajan written by Surdas. He was a 15th-century blind saint, musician and poet, known for his devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna.

Surdas was one of the Ashtasakha (eight friends of Lord Krishna), appointed by Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya to perform Raga seva to Sri Govardhan Nath (the Krishna deity, uncovered by Mahaprabhu on Govardhan Hill near Vrindavan, Mathura.

He is considered a saguna bhakti poet and so also known as Saint Surdas, a name which literally translates as „servant of melody”.

Guru Gaitri Mantra – Gobinde Mukande Udare Apare translation in English:

„Sustainer, Liberator, Enlightener, Infinite, Destroyer, Creator, Nameless, Desireless.”

This potent mantra works on karmic blocks, errors and problems from our past that we carry with us.

„Besides helping cleanse the subconscious mind, it balances the hemispheres of the brain, bringing compassion and patience to the one who meditates on it.” – quote by Yogi Bhajan.

It was written by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru in his amazing poem, Jaap Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh was a spiritual master, poet, warrior and philosopher. He became Guru on November 24, 1675 at the age of 9, following in the footsteps of his father Guru Teg Bahadur ji. He gave the Sikhs their unique symbols – the uncut hair, the pure iron kara, the dastar, and the sword.

He declared the the Sikh holy book as his successor rather of a human being. The Guru Granth Sahib would thus be the Sikhs’ guide forever. Sikhs give it the same respect and status as a human Guru.

Hindi Bhajan – Tumi Bhaja Re Mana

Tumi Bhaja Re Mana – hindi bhajan complete lyrics:

„Tumi Bhaja re Mana,
Tumi Japa re Mana
Om, Shri Ram Jaya Ram
Japa re Mana.”

Tumi Bhaja Re Mana – hindi bhajan translation:

„Oh mind (mana), my dear friend,
Always chant (bhaja) the name of the Divine,
Always repeat (japa) God’s Name!”

Description:

In India, people sing bhajans and take part in kirtans, particularly during religious events, rituals and special days. A bhajan is any type of Hindu devotional song.

It has no fixed form: it may be as simple as a kirtan or mantra or as sophisticated as the dhrupad or kriti with music based on classical talas and ragas.

It is normally lyrical, expressing love for the Divine. The name, a cognate of bhakti, meaning religious devotion, suggests its significance to the bhakti movement that spread from the south of India throughout the entire subcontinent in the Moghul era.

The tradition of singing bhajans in India is age old. Some of the earliest composers of bhajans were devotees like Surdas, Mira Bai, Tulsidas, Kabir.

The most popular bhajan themes include verses from the Ramayana and other Hindu scriptures, praises of Goddesses and Gods and their glory.

Bhajans have been influenced at different times by the spiritual teachings of saints such as Haridas, Chaitanya, Tulsidas, Kabir, Soordas and Mira, whose songs are still sung today. They form a part of contemporary Hinduism.

In order to sing Bhajans you do not need a trained voice. Every voice coming from the heart is beautiful. With every song sung the confidence in your own voice grows and the possible timidness to express yourself by singing soon gives way to the happiness doing it. The songs are easily memorized.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara – Lord Shiva Aarti translation in English:

„Glory to you, O Lord Shiva! Glory to you, O Omkaara! May Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and the assembly of other gods, including the great Lord Shiva, relieve me of my sufferings!

Being the Absolute, True being, Consciousness and Bliss, you play the roles of all the 3 Gods – Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. As Lord Vishnu, you have but one face, as Lord Brahma four and as Lord Shiva five. They gladden the sight of all who behold them. As Lord Brahma you prefer the back of the swan for your seat, as Lord Vishnu you like to ensconce yourself on the back of Garuda and as Lord Shiva you make the sacred bull your conveyance; all these stand ready. O Great Lord, pray rid me of my sufferings!

As Brahma, you possess two arms, as Lord Vishnu four and as Lord Shiva ten, all of which look matchlessly lovely. No sooner do the inhabitants of the three spheres behold you than they are all enchanted. O great Lord Omkaara, pray rid me of my sufferings.

You are, O great Lord Omkaara, wearing a garland of Rudraaksha, another of forest flowers the 3rd of skulls; your forehead, glistening in the moonlight which it holds, is smeared with sandal-paste and musk. Pray rid me of my sufferings.

O great Lord Omkaara, your body is attired in yellow and white silken clothes and in tiger skin, while in your company are troops of goblins, gods like Lord Brahma and divine seers like Sanaka. Pray rid me of my sufferings.

O great Lord Omkaara, you hold akamandalu in one of your hands and in another a trident; you bring joy to all, destroy all distress and sustain the whole world. May you rid me of all my sufferings!

The ignorant know Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva as three individual gods, but they are all inevitably fused into a single mystic syllable „OM”. Pray rid me of my sufferings.

Says Swami Shivananda, „He who chants this Arti to the Lord of the three gunas-sattva, tamas and rajas – attains fulfillment of his heart’s desire”. O great Lord Omkaara, may you rid me of my sufferings.”

Description:

Om Jai Shiv Omkara is a Hindi Bhajan song dedicated to Lord Mahadev or Lord Shiva. This beautiful Shiv Aarti was composed by Shivanand Swami. Lord Shiva is worshiped as Omkar Swaropa or the Omkar, which is the universal sacred sound or the universal ever-existant.

In His abstract form, Shivji is worshiped as a Lingam, also known as a Shivling. This representation portrays His limitless, unchanging, transcendent and formless qualities.

„In the age of Kali, there is no greater virtue conducive to the achievement of liberation, than listening to the Shivapurana.” – Lord Shiva

Description:

Sukhavati is the blissful Buddha field of Amitabha. One of the Buddha fields of the 5 families, said to be located in the western direction.

Since this prayer belongs to the sutra tradition you may chant it without receiving a ritual reading transmission.

According to Jamgon Ngawang Lekpa, the 4 causes of rebirth in Sukhavati are:

  1. Generating bodhichitta (the compassionate wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings).
  2. Accumulating merit in many ways.
  3. Often bringing the Buddha field to mind.
  4. Dedicating all one’s sources of merit as causes for rebirth in that pure realm.

Metta Prayer – Lovingkindness Prayer

Metta Prayer – Lovingkindness Prayer lyrics:

„May „all beings” be happy, healthy and whole.
May they have love, warmth and affection.
May they be protected from harm, and free from fear.
May they be alive, engaged and joyful.
May “all beings” enjoy inner peace and ease.
May that peace expand into their world and throughout the entire universe.”

Description:

Metta is from the Pali, meaning „good will”, „boundless friendliness” or „lovingkindness, It is sourced in Buddhist tradition, yet different versions of it are found in many spiritual traditions, including Celtic Christianity and Judaism.

It’s usually used to refer to a type of meditation where the practitioner, by chanting specific phrases, wishes herself well-being and then slowly extends that wish to others before offering it universally to all beings everywhere.

Lovingkindness meditation:

Practicing metta enriches our lives by creating a warm-hearted feeling within us, and elevating our capacity for compassion and benevolence.

This pleasant effect can be immediate, but more usual it arises subtly, manifesting in our daily life as contentment and a renewed appreciation for other people.

By practicing lovingkindness meditation, we are creating a skillful habit of mind, one which allows us to soften into the profound experiences of our lives, the chances to connect with all that is around and within us, to live more fully. In addition, this practice allows a spaciousness to develop in the mind allowing us to be less reactive, less stressed out, more calm in the face of challenges, losses, injustices.

To practice lovingkindness meditation, we simply repeat phrases to ourselves over and over at an easy pace while holding the image of the receiver of our lovingkindness in our mind.

Don’t worry if you don’t get a clear picture, the strong and sincere intention to do so will be enough.

Try to send the metta from your heart area; just visualize the thoughts coming from within your chest.

Hundreds of monks say this prayer everyday all over the world. When you say these healing words as well, you are connected to all of them.

The goal of this practice is to cultivate benevolence and friendliness in this mode, until it’s a mental state that arises effortlessly. At that point, you’ll find it increasingly without effort to greet all sentient beings with friendliness and kindness.

Description:

Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of infinite compassion and mercy, possibly the most beloved of all figures in Buddhist legend. Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara is beloved throughout the Buddhist world – not only in Mahayana Buddhism (Great Vehicle), but also in Theravada, the branch of Buddhism that largely does not recognize Bodhisattvas, and in Vajrayana, the Tantric branch of Buddhism.

Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara has great powers and can help all sentient beings. His siddhis are limitless and he can appear in any form in all the 6 realms of existence to relieve the suffering of the sentient beings who live there. Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara vowed to rescue those who call on him when they are in suffering, for example, when caught in a fire, shipwrecked or facing an attack.

The virtues and miracles of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara are accounted in many Buddhist sutras. The Avalokiteshvara-sutra was incorporated into the well-known Saddharmapundarika-sutra, or Lotus Sutra, in the third century c.e., though it continued to circulate as an independent work in China.

In the Lotus Sutra, Gautama Buddha said that if a suffering being hears the name of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara and earnestly calls out to the Bodhisattva, Avalokiteshvara will hear the call and relieve that being from his suffering.

Description:

Barche Lamsel — the outer practice of prayer from Lame Tukdrup Barche Kunsel (The Heart Practice of the Lama: Averting All Obstacles on the Path), which was revealed by Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa (the emanation of Prince Murub Tsenpo) together with Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo.

The supplication constitutes the outer stage of that practice. May this fully dispel the obstacles and frailty of the doctrine and beings and may it be a cause for the complete accomplishment of the benefits of all sentient beings.

Description:

Kamadeva, the Indian Cupid, is generally regarded as the son of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, under the forms of Krishna and Rukmini, but he is also portrayed in some places as a son of Lord Brahma.

According to one sacred hymn in the „Rig-Veda”, Kamadeva is worshiped and said to be unequaled by the gods.

Kamadeva is illustrated as a beautifully winged youth with greenish skin, holding a bow while a quiver with arrows hangs on his back.

He travels about through the 3 worlds accompanied by his wife Rati, the cuckoo, the humming-bee, spring personified, and gentle breezes.

This chant is one of the most powerful gayatri mantras and has prompt effect upon the devotee.

Rama Naraynam Janaki Vallabham,
Yaad Aayegi Unko Kabhi Na Kabhi
Krishan Darshan To Denge Kabhi Na Kabhi

Achyutam Keshavam Krishna Damodaram
Rama Naraynam Janaki Vallabham.

Translation in English:

These are some of the many different names for Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu. Chanting these names over and over increases your closeness and devotion to Vishnu.

Who says God doesn’t come to you?
You don’t call her like Meera does.

Who says God doesn’t eat?
You don’t offer berries the way Shabri did.

Who says God doesn’t sleep?
Perhaps you don’t put him to sleep the way Mother Yashoda did.

Who says God won’t dance with you?
You don’t dance with him the way the gopis do

Keep taking his name as you go about your work
Remember Lord Krishna and keep him in your mind always

He will be there when you need him
Krishna will visit you one day.

This bhajan is sung by singer Vikram Hazra. All the words in lyrics are praising of Lord Krishna. Achyutam signifies immortal – living forever and Keshavam is also another name of Lord Krishna – who has long and beautiful hair.

Twameva Mata Cha Pita Twameva complete lyrics:

„Twameva Mata Cha Pita Twameva,
Twameva Bandhu Sakha Twameva,
Twameva Vidya Sarvinam Twameva,
Twameva Sarvam Mum Deva Deva.”

Twameva Mata Cha Pita Twameva translation in English:

„O God,
You are my mother, my father, my brother, and my friend.
You are my knowledge and my only wealth.
You are everything to me and the God of all Gods.”

Description:

This mantra is usually chanted at the conclusion of a prayer session, meditation, or religious function. Here the practitioner surrenders his or her individuality to the Lord for his Grace.

This amazing mantra comes from the Pandava Gita, a collection of exquisitely beautiful verses from different sources.

But, all mantras came from the single sacred sound: „Om”. Om is a combination of three main sounds: Aa-Vu-Ma. „Aa” represents Lord Vishnu, the sustainer, „Vu” represents Lord Shiva, the destroyer, and „Ma” represents Lord Brahma, the creator.

„Man” means mind and „tra” means instrument or tool, so the word „mantra” literally translates as instrument of the mind. Mantra yoga represents „union by voice or sound,” and refers to the rhythmic repetition of mantras.

By constant repetition and chanting of a mantra, you start to get pure thoughts, good positive energy flows into your Mind.

With great positive thoughts, divine thoughts, pure thoughts, your mind gets purified.

All the thoughts that we repeat in our mind have vibrations, even though we are not hearing them out loud. Thoughts have an effect, and this effect is not automatically always positive, but when we repeat a mantra, it teaches the mind to calm down and let go. You go beyond the mind and into silence.

„Through mantra practice, positive karma flows freely into our lives, desires are fulfilled, spiritual abilities (siddhis) manifest, and we have moved another step forward toward moksha-complete spiritual freedom.” – Thomas Ashley-Farrand’s quote.

Suddhosi Buddhosi mantra lyrics:

„Suddhosi Buddhosi Niranjanosi
Samsara Maya Parivar jitosi
Samsara svapanam traija mohan nidram
Nan janma mrityor tat sat svarupe.”

Suddhosi Buddhosi mantra translation in English:

„You are forever pure.
You are forever true.
And the dream of this world can never touch you.
So give up your attachment, and give up your confusion.
And fly to that space that’s beyond all illusion.”

Description:

This soothing mantra reminds us of our essential and pure nature, and to not get caught in the illusion of the world.

Swami Sivananda (a Hindu spiritual teacher) wrote a whole book on conquering fear („Conquest of Fear”), in which he mentioned this particular mantra, which was sung by the woman sage Madalasa to her young babies. Here is what he wrote:

„The sage Madalasa sang the following cradle song when she rocked the cradle of her children: `Suddhosi Buddhosi Niranjanosi Samsara-maya-parivarjitosi` – `O child! Thou art Pure Consciousness. Thou art stainless. Thou art devoid of Maya and Samsara.`

She made all her children sages. The whole world is in dire need of women-sages like Madalasa. The destiny of the children and world is in the hands of intelligent mothers.”

Every documentary that we ranked is good and worth watching, since they’re based on stories of real places and people, they present realistic views, not magical, overly positive fairy-tales.

What the documentaries ranked below have in common is that they are masterpieces of nonfiction storytelling, and you need to see them all.

23 Best inspirational documentaries list:

This is the story of two British climbers: Joe Simpson and Simon Yates, respectively 25 and 21 years old, who in 1985 set out to scale the Siula Grande, a difficult 21,000ft peak in the Peruvian Andes. They prepared to do so, what’s more, in the old-fashioned Alpinist style: just 2 guys connected by a rope, making their way up this unconquered and almost sheer face in what was effectively a continuous effort with minimum breaks and just one other man stationed at a lonely base camp.
