More information:

This mantra is an Indian devotional chant or song often sung in the Krishna Consciousness movement founded by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, by different other schools of yoga, and by Hindus in general.

In Sanskrit, „Govinda” is one of the many names given to Lord Krishna. It is a joint name from 2 words: gov (cows) and indam (god).

When Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan hill to defend the cows, milkmaids,  cowherds and denizens of Vrindavan from the wrath of Indra. Indra realized his mistake and accepted him as the Supreme Power.

At the same time, when Indra asked for the forgiveness for his audacity from Lord Krishna, the queen of the Cows, Surabhi showered the rain of milk on Lord Krishna to show her gratitude and called him with the name of „Govinda”, meaning „lord of the cows.”

The child form of Lord Krishna also known as Bala Gopala (child Gopala) is worshiped across India.

Lord Krishna is a name of the original, unique Supreme Person, the source of all that exists.

The name Krishna, indicates the unequaled beauty and charm of the Supreme Person, as He appears to His most dear devotees.

People consider Krishna their protector, leader, hero, philosopher, spiritual teacher and friend all rolled into one. Lord Krishna has influenced the Indian thought, culture and life in myriad ways.

He has influenced not only its philosophy and religion, but also into its literature and mysticism, sculpture and painting, music and dance, and all aspects of Indian folklore.

„Those who eat too much or eat too little, who sleep too much or sleep too little, will not succeed in meditation. But those who are temperate in eating and sleeping, work and recreation, will come to the end of sorrow through meditation.” – Krishna
