Maa Shailputri mantra translation:
”I worship Goddess Shailputri to fulfill my wishes, who is adorned with a crescent moon on her head, rides on a bull, carrying a Trishul and is illustrious.”
Description:
Navratri is the most pious celebrations in the Hindu tradition that happens to commemorate the worship of Goddess Durga. Goddess Durga is also known as the Mother of the Universe and considered to be the power behind the work of preservation, creation, and destruction of the universe.
The first day of the Navratri festival starts with Ghatasthapna, which signifies that the devotees are required to sow the seeds of grains in a clay pot that represents the presence of Goddess Durga in the home.
Shailputri Maa is the Goddess of Nature and Inspiration. Among the Nine Durgas, Shei is considered to be the first manifestation of Mother of the Universe.
Goddess Durga was born in the house of King of Mountains “Parvat Raj Himalaya”, so She is called “Shailputri,” which literally translates as ”the daughter of the mountain.”
Shailputri is also known as Goddess Parvati (the unknowable but enlivening feminine force in Hindu mythology), the consort of Lord Shiva and mother of Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya.
Legend
In her previous birth, it is said that the Goddess was Sati, daughter of Daksha (one of the sons of Lord Brahma). Once Daksha performed a big Yagna without inviting Lord Shiva. But Sati, wife of Shiva, came there with Shiva. Daksha insulted Shiva. Goddess Sati could not tolerate this and she burnt herself in the fire of Yagna.
In her next birth, the Goddess incarnated Her as Goddess Parvati, the daughter of Parvatraj Himalaya and among Nava Durgas, She has been referred to as Shailputri who was again known as Himavati.
Iconography
The Goddess is usually depicted calm and pleasing with a half moon on Her forehead. Sometimes, She has a lotus flower in Her left hand and a trident in Her right hand. She wears a light pink or white colored saree and rides a bullock (Nandi). She is the absolute form of Mother Nature.
Day one Navratri mantra chanting benefits:
Since She is the Goddess of the root chakra – Muladhara, followers recite this mantra keeping the Muladhara chakra in mind.
The color of the root chakra is red and it signifies our actual, physical connection to the Earth. Without energizing this chakra, one doesn’t have the strength and power to do anything worthwhile.
From the Yogic point of view, the First Navratri is believed to be a very auspicious day. This is the Yogic start for being in tune with the Mother of the Universe.
